The Internet Has Ruined My Childhood

Okay, so I don’t know about you guys, but when I was growing up we had totally legitimate (not) free-to-air satellite TV. So I watched a whole bunch of Disney Channel growing up.  One of my favourite things on Disney was the “Hi I’m someone, and you’re watching the Disney Channel” indents. Even if you didn’t have Disney Channel, you probably still know what I’m talking about.  Now, thanks to the magic of the internet, behind-the-scenes footage of the indent’s being made have popped up online, and these videos are pretty great. This one has Raven-Symoné looking agitated after having […]

The Talk Continues

Last week, our panel discussion looked into the Maclean’s article about racism in Winnipeg. This week, we’re furthering the conversation by looking at the justice system in Manitoba. Marc Lagace will lead the discussion, looking at First Nations people in our law system. The panel will include former crime reporter James Turner. Our feature reporter, Adriana Mingo, looks into life as a broke student. By that, we mean she’ll be reporting on the Red River College Students’ Association (RRCSA) food bank. One time students might get Pop Tarts, the next it’s a sack of potatoes—but every second week, the RRCSA […]

The Little Drummer (Guitar, Bass, Keys and Vocals) Boy

You think you’re a musician? You can strum that guitar or bang those drums pretty well eh? Well I’m going to bring you down to Earth for a second. When I was six-years-old, I was worried about getting cooties and what I wanted for Christmas eight months before December. This kid though has his priorities figured out. His name is Jordan Bijan, and he’s a six year old from Brampton, Ontario. I heard my mom listening to his cover, and it was pretty good. For six years old, he can hit some notes I wouldn’t even dream of trying. I […]

CM Punk Pulls Back The WWE Curtain On His Exit

Were you ever a wrestling fan? I was a big fan when I was a kid, but I don’t watch it anymore. It was so over-the-top and cartoony, the on-screen stories just can’t hold my interest as an adult, but the sometimes-secretive show business side of the WWE still has some very interesting stories to share. Journeyman wrestler and podcaster Colt Cabana had a huge interview with former WWE champion Phil Brooks (CM Punk) that was released online Friday. The podcast has almost 600,000 views on YouTube, in addition to however many are listening to it through iTunes. Brooks was […]

It’s Time

There are thousands upon thousands of proposals on YouTube. With the holidays coming up, I can only imagine how many couples get engaged. Tis the season, right? But, if you try to search Christmas wedding proposals you come up with low-quality home videos. Where is the thought? Where is the high quality video production like this one? I know it’s not Christmas, but it’s great! It’s the perfect combination of flash mob and just plain cuteness. Now for all you couples thinking about getting married, I say go back to the drawing board. It’s not enough to just wrap that […]

Milt Stegall the NOTT Auto Beagle…. (by Jordan Welwood)

http://vimeo.com/111220072   Winnipeg Blue Bomber great Milt Stegall a.k.a. The Touchdown Beagle, a.k.a. the turtle man has officially sold out. Or has he?   Milt has recently lent his celebrity to a local automotive dealership Nott Autocorp for a commercial.   The video features the CFL superstar working out and training in all his shredded glory. His exercise is intercut with shots of him peeling out in an Audi sportscar.   Doing local auto commercials would normally be a embarrassing or low end thing for someone of his status to stoop to. I will remind you of the cheesy used […]

My Cat Is Up to Something…

I’ve long suspected one of my cats of hating me and planning my doom. I have one cat named Otis, and he’s legit. He’s my boy, and we chill all night, and get along famously. But I also have a cat named Patrick. Patrick isn’t a huge fan of me, or my work. Each morning he walks all over me, and not the way that a cat can lightly tread, no. He puts pressure into his paw and digs it right into my ribs, so that I have to wake up. He’s doing this to slowly drive me insane from […]

Oh, Bother..

Our hometown bear is facing some troubles in Europe! Winnie-the-Pooh, also know as Pooh Bear, is now banned from a small town in Poland. The issue arose when the town was going to name a small playground after Winnie-the-Pooh. The problem—according to the people who attended the closed-door meeting about the issue—is that Pooh Bear is inappropriately dressed and has an unclear gender. One of the people in the meeting even called Pooh Bear a hermaphrodite. Now I’m not a parent, nor am I someone who is obsessed with Pooh Bear—but is this really a good example to be setting […]

The Chair

If an irresponsible driver killed your daughter and her grandparents, would you be satisfied with giving the driver a community service sentence? Most likely not. In Netherlands, a driver was speeding at 75m/h on a zone that has a 50m/h limit. He killed a little girl and her two grandparents. A jail sentence makes sense but not this time. The judge concluded that 120 hours of community service  is a better punishment. If the convicted man does not complete his 120 hours, he will be held in custody for 60 days. The driver showed no desire to apologize, and no sign […]
